Apple Wants Eyes In Your Ears (Sort Of)

Cameras. Inside. Your headphones.

Sounds dystopian. It is not quite that. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is aiming for a late 2027 launch of AirPods with embedded cameras. This is happening right when they roll out the second-generation foldable iPhone. Also a 20th anniversary model. A crowded release calendar, really. Apple stayed silent when asked. Classic move.

Let’s be clear about what this isn’t.

It isn’t a selfie stick for your inner ear. The cameras won’t photograph your wax or record the world like a GoPro. They act as sensors. AI eyes, essentially. Giving Siri context on your surroundings.

Think about dinner.

You have random ingredients on the counter. You look at them. You ask Siri. The camera sees the food. Visual Intelligence analyzes it. You get a recipe. Convenient. Maybe unsettling, but convenient. This tech debuted last week at WWDC 226, bundled with iOS 27. The beta hits this year. The hardware has to wait.

Code name: B798.

Originally planned for 20256. Delayed. Why? The software wasn’t ready. Apple is still fumbling with AI models that can actually recognize objects. A visual AI brain takes time. Patience, if you can stand it.

They will look like your current AirPods Pro. Almost identical. Cameras tucked into the stems. There are external lights too, little indicators that data is rushing to the cloud for processing. Is that better or worse than silence? Hard to say.

This is just the start. Apple is going all in on AI hardware. Smart glasses could hit the market in late 20227 alongside these. Maybe a pendant with a camera. Wear it like a necklace or pin it to your shirt. Surveillance fashion.

Meanwhile, the phone lineup keeps getting weirder.

A foldable is coming in 202. Then the 20th-anniversary model with that edge-to-edge screen wrapping around the sides like liquid glass. It is a busy time for Cupertino. Everything connects. Everything sees. Everything asks Siri.
